Ski to Sea

We headed down to watch the Ski to Sea canoe to bike transition.  We stopped and got some sandwhiches andenjoyed a picnic lunch.  What we didn't realize was that the water level was so high on the river that there was no beach to actually be able to watch the canoers come in.  So we just hung out on top near the transition spot and watched from there.  Jaydon had a good time and at one point was cheering and yelling like crazy for the teams waving his arms in the air.  People near us got a big kick out of it.

Jeremy and I keep talking about really wanting to do this some year.  We just need to actually remember we want to do it before we are back at the event as spectators.  Not to mention putting together a team of people to do all the various events.

Lucy is 2 Months Old!

Well I did a pretty big two month update before but here are a couple photos of Lucy right at two months old.  Time goes pretty quickly with the first child but with the second it is amazing how fast it seems to be flying by.  Lucy is a smiley baby and loves to 'talk' with you and coo and make lots of cool noises.  I have a sneaky feeling she will be a thumb sucker as she works mighty hard to get it to her mouth and does manage to connect correctly a few times which thrills her.

Dairy free seemed to make a big difference (by the way did you know there is dairy in many hot dogs?  I didn't, bummer), but it doesn't seem to have fixed it all.  I am waiting to see what steps we will take next to deal with her diaper rash (it almost went all the way away but now is coming back).  She also still spits up quite a bit and doesn't have normal stools yet but we shall see, I may have to go soy free too (that will be really hard, do you know how many foods have soy in them?!?).
Giving some smiles to the broken camera.  Just like Jaydon she lost most of the hair she was born with and is quite a baldy.  Let's hope it grows in faster than Jaydon's did, I would hate for her to be bald until 18 months or so.

Kiera Turns Four!

We are lucky to have made some good friends in our area through a mom play-group I joined.  Here we are celebrating Kiera's fourth birthday!  It was a lot of fun and a glorious day.  They even had a small bouncy house in their yard so between that, the cheetos and birthday cake life couldn't get any better for Jaydon.

Picnic at the park

Wendy and I decided to take the kids to a nearby park to have a picnic and feed the ducks at the lake.  Unfortunately we only found one duck who was too tired to care about the bread we were tossing his way.  The kids had fun and it was a beautiful day.

Lucy Update!

Well we had Lucy's two month check-up a little early because it was becoming apparant that something was not quite right with our little girl.  For the most part I will say she is healthy and doing well and it was nothing to really freak out about which is why I probably let it go a bit longer than I should have.

Lucy has been a major spitter her whole life, in fact she spits-up so much that I am still having to do laundry twice a day to keep us stocked in burp cloths and just to make sure the gross soaked clothes get cleaned regularly.  She has also had never-ending diaper rash (not kidding, she has had an open type sore on her butt since day 4 of life and while we have gotten them to fade or slightly change position we have never gotten them to go away). Then we have had some difficulties getting her comfortable to sleep (for a long time she would only sleep on someone), now she needs more down time during her naps but she is not comfortable on her back.  So while everything says put your baby to sleep on her back she has yet to actually do that and we get rest in this house when she is on her side or her stomach.  Thankfully we are pretty aware of some of the SIDS risks so we are cautious when she is on her tummy but it is still a bit more or a risk then just having her on her back.

With all those 'symptoms' we have come back from the dr. with me being taken off dairy (so much for all that ice cream I bought on super sale last week :( ).  We are hoping she just has a diary intolerance, many babies have this and will grow out of it by the time they are two years old.  We also have some reflux medicine but we don't want to medicate her so we are going to wait and see how the diet change works this next week or so and then use the meds after that time.  The fact that she has diarrhea and the major spit-up which is what makes us lean more towards a food intolerance.  Keep your fingers crossed this helps!

She weighed in at 12lbs 6oz and while that still puts her in the 90th% for weight it is hard for me because that means technically she is gaining just under the the recommended weight gain of .5-1 ounce a day.  I have an oversupply of milk (her choking and bad latch and clicking while nursing are signs of that) and it just goes to show how much she is actually losing in her spitting up when I can't get her to gain weight really well.  I also know that she started out really big so she may not need as much and that is ok, but it is hard when I had a son who gained 3 ounces a day and grew amazingly well and now I have a daughter who can't keep her food down.  She was 22.5 inches tall (around 50th%) and I don't know her head measure but it put her around 40th%.

Lucy is a smiler and I am really hoping that if we can get this diet thing figured out she will be the happy 'easy' baby I know she can be.  On a side note I am still trying to deal with our broken camera so I am sorry to not have a cute recent photo to put on here, I will instead try satisfying you with more pictures of when Asia and Craig came to visit at just under 2 weeks old.

Happy Mother's Day

I had a fabulous mother's day. Jeremy cleaned the house for me on Saturday which was fabulous (I really am on this acts of service kick and it has been great), while Jaydon was adventuring with Grandma and Gram and I took Lucy to return a bunch of wedding clothes that we didn't use to the mall and bought a new shirt.  Then on Sunday we had a lovely breakfast (thank you Trader Joe's chocolate croissants) and went for a walk around the fishing lake my mom and Nancy had gone to the week before.
Jaydon had his first experience with nettles so he didn't ride his bike for that long but we were still able to walk around.  Lucy was in the chariot then the front pack and it was just a gorgeous day.
Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers in my life and what a special day for me, finally feeling really good helped a lot too!

Worn out!

Gradma and Gram do a great job of wearing out Jaydon on their adventures but they wear themselves out as well.  Grandma was helping get Lucy to sleep and Higgins was starved for attention so the four were all ready to sack out.

Adventures with Grandma and Gram

It is so great having my mom and Nancy only an hour or so away, when I was sick it was a life saver to have them come up and they LOVE adventuring with Jaydon (and Jaydon LOVES adventuring with them).
They took Jaydon and Lucy on a walk around a local fishing lake.
The farmers market was having an Everybody Bikes expo and Jaydon got to use his Skuut bike, he had a great time following the obstacles and obeying the traffic signals. He also practiced putting his bike on a bus and getting a tune up.  It was great!

After the bike expo he headed off for a ride sometimes being pulled in the chariot but more often riding on his own, I think he put in about 3.5 miles on his bike this day (his bottom was a little sore after it all).

This is a great photo of him working on his balancing.  He has loved his balance bike and he is doing so well with it.  What a great way to learn to ride a bike!!

A few random photos

A few miscellaneous photos.
Grandma with a bundled up Lucy after a chariot adventure
Lucy being a bottle champ and still a spit up champ!  She doesn't get bottles very often but it sure is nice that she will take them so well.
Lucy is a smiler!  Since almost the first week she has blessed us with some terrific smiles and some great interaction.  I have yet to actually capture a good one on camera but we came close here.  She is enjoying some naked squirming time on her changing table.
She finally succumbed to her tiredness.  It took some effort, a bit reminiscent of Jaydon.  Bouncing on the ball.  She will sometimes use a pacifier but not that often and not for that long, I think she will be a thumb sucker as she has gotten her thumb a couple times and is pretty proud of herself for that.

Happy 4th Birthday ZZ!

Our neighbor friend ZZ turned 4, she chose to have a princess and pirates themed birthday party, it was awesome!  While she got to dress in her princess dress and have a princess cake the activities were pirate themed and it was a lot of fun.
Jaydon sporting his costume before we headed over.
Activity numer 1, decorate your treasure box.  Jaydon found some gem stickers that he put on his and called it good.

All the kids anxiously waiting for cake.
Now for the pirate treasure hunt!
The pirate left gold coins at each clue station, Jaydon was quite excited.
Oh, they spotted the flag for another clue.

Jaydon and Emmett started exhibiting their boy tendancies and were throwing around all the wrapping paper jumping in the air and going a bit crazy having a grand time.

Happy Birthday ZZ!  Thanks for such a fun party.

Bath Time

While I had given Lucy a couple sponge baths I didn't get around to actually dunking her in a tub of water until after my illness.  She has enjoyed being in the water (as long as you don't cover her face with the wash cloth).  Thank you to Wendy for coming over and helping out while Jeremy bathed Jaydon.

**Feel free to look back before the update post, I have put a number of new posts on here by order of when they occurred.**

My water baby - she enjoyed it!

These last two photos are from bath number two a week or so later.  My camera has broken so you can see part of the shutter in the edges, hopefully we can get around to returning it soon.
