Finally...

Yeah, Jaydon finally lost his umbilical cord! Technically the majority of it fell off on the 28th of Sept. (while being dried off from yet another sponge bath) but we like to say he was one month old because there was part that hung on until his official one month birthday. Doctors kept telling us it was a really thick cord and may take awhile to fall off but we never anticipated that he would roll over before losing his cord. Here are a couple bad pictures of my attempt to document this milestone.

(please note the dates that I am pretending to have updated the posts,
that will tell you when these posts should have happened :-))

Birth Announcments

I have not forgotten to send out birth announcements. I am just having a really hard time getting the 'right' photo that I want to send out. I have continued to think about it and will often try snapping a picture that I think will work but then I am not satisfied, I even had my sister help and we just couldn't quite get what we wanted and thought looked right. Here are a few (of the many) attempts. I will get announcements ready at some point - I promise.

Rolling Over!?!

So Jaydon is four weeks exactly and we were having some tummy time, since the very first time he has done tummy time we have been pretty impressed with Jaydon's head strength. He lifts his head to the 90 degree level and will look around a lot. He also has strong legs and can scooch (sp?) himself on his blanket when we put something firm behind his feet.

This evening after I put him down on his tummy I was looking over at Jeremy who was looking down at Jaydon and all of a sudden Jeremy had a funny expression on his face, I looked down and there was Jaydon on his back. I looked back to Jeremy, back to Jaydon and was thinking 'did he just do that?' Sure enough our little guy rolled himself over from his tummy to his back - completely unintentionally - he was up on his arms and his head was pretty high, Jeremy said he turned his head to look up at me and over he went. We are both impressed by his development and a little freaked out that this happened so quickly (though I am sure it will be quite some time before he does this on purpose - or at least I can hope).

Week 2-3

Well I am having to learn to work the computer all one handed as I tend to have a baby occupying one hand/arm all day. We thought gaining 2 ounces a day was impressive...well we went in for our hearing screening and lactation appointment 8 days after he weighed in at 8.8 and he had already reached 10 lbs. That meant he was gaining 3 ounces a day. Here are some pics from weeks 2 and 3, I am a bit behind and have more to get on the computer soon.

Meeting Nana

A picture Nana would appreciate more - her last time seeing Jaydon before she had to go back to CA. She of course stayed an extra couple hours to get a good snuggle in.

8lbs 8 oz

Well we had our second Dr. app today for Jaydon. He is 12 days old and came in weighing 8lbs 8 oz. That is a 14 ounce weight gain in one week. They recommend a half ounce to an ounce a day of gain and Jaydon was above pace with gaining 2 ounces a day. The nice thing is that since he latches so well and is an eating machine we have been encouraged to try other methods of soothing (pacifiers, moms clean finger etc) so that I don't have to feel like my only purpose is to provide milk all the time. We have a happy and very healthy baby boy! Since he is doing so well we don't have go have another check-up until he reaches 2 months.

Week One!

Well I am certainly not going to make promises about updating this weekly but I do hope to get pictures and stories on here when I can. We have an amazing family supporting us and it has been wonderful. Jaydon is doing very well, eating a lot!, growing strong and keeping us on our toes.

Just arrived, the diaper is very strategically positioned.

With Auntie Jenny and meeting Laurent for the first time

Little Peanut - we all love the swaddlers, and he often gets a hand out.

Meeting the cats - Higgins continued to just walk right up onto Jaydon at their first meeting

Daddy soothing me during diaper time - Jaydon is very vocal about his displeasure with diaper changes and being naked, as soon as he gets some clothes back on he settles down.

Heading out on our first trip leaving the house after we got home from the hospital, we even made it on time to our appointment.
