Happy Halloween!

It was a bit harder coming up with a costume idea than I thought. I thought we would just buy one but couldn't find something I really liked until I saw a couple scarecrow costumes. Of course those were all sold out by the time I found them so I decided to try my hand at making one. The hat was a bit more a hobo hat (I added a felt trim later) but I was pleased with how it turned out.

Trying on his costume for the first time. Not sure what we were doing to him.

Ok, he got to get up and move around, life was better.

Halloween afternoon - showing off one of his not happy expressions. We walked to see if one of my co-workers who lives nearby was around, she wasn't so we stopped at the park instead (note the video at the end).

Trick-or-Treating to just a few of our close neighbors. We are really lucky to live in a friendly cul de sac where we know all our neighbors, just going to 3 houses takes almost 30 minutes.

Getting candy, still not sure about reaching in and grabbing it himself.

He enjoyed finally getting into his pumpkin and taking something out, then putting it back.

His favorite part of the evening was probably going down the slide. I was impressed with how much he loved it, going by himself and on a big one. Sorry the video isn't great, I was a little preoccupied making sure he stopped that I kept missing his face.
I LOVE holidays so it was great to have Halloween arrive. I think one reason I love Halloween so much is that it is the first holiday in a long time where I get to really decorate my house and it kicks off a steady stream of festivities for the next few months.

Pumpkin Carving

I don't know the last time I carved a pumpkin but it has been awhile. Jeremy and I have often talked about doing one for the holiday but never got around to it before this year. We thought we would give Jaydon his first experience with the gooey insides and see what happened.

Daddy getting to work

Jaydon totally uninterested in the pumpkin carving was playing with his explorer truck.

Deciding to check it out carrying his trick-or-treat bag

Taking a look

His favorite part was putting the top on and taking it off.

In fact, he wanted to put the lid on even when Daddy was trying to clean it out.

He got the spoon and that was intriguing.

Finally reached a hand in

and pulled out some goo.

Not sure he thinks this is all that great of an activity.

He moved on and started pushing around his highchair.

A bit of a mess but certainly nothing major, a strand in the hair and some on his chest.

After bath and bed for Jaydon, I then carved the 'face.' Pumpkin pie is one of my favorite desserts so I thought it was fitting. Certainly not an original idea but one I will probably use again - not that hard to carve, and come on, I am a bit of a math nerd.

City Trick-or-Treating

Our town had a citywide trick-or-treating night a few days before Halloween for any of the businesses that wanted to participate. We thought we would give the costumes a test drive and see how it went.

Scarecrow Jaydon getting ready to go into the bank.

I was hoping he would reach into the candy bowl and grab one but he was a bit in awe and just sort of stood there looking at it.

The nice witch had given him a crunch bar. You can see Brenna the little pickle next to Jaydon.

"Here Dad, you can have it."

Sleeping

I don't often get a chance to see how Jaydon is sleeping becuase the video monitor isn't quite clear enough to tell exact position and we don't go into his room when he is asleep. Today, however, Jaydon had a Dr.'s appointment (it took almost 3 months to get him in for a new patient appointment so he could be set up with a Dr. in this area) and I needed to wake him up. I decided to snap a couple pictures first becuase he was pretty cute.

He has started piling up his blankets and using them as pillows.

Lambie doesn't always stay in his mouth the whole time, he sure does love that thing.

Getting ready for Halloween

Jaydon and Daddy went out to buy a pumpkin one day and when they got home they had the pumpkin but also something else Jaydon talked (pointed at and showed he wanted) Jeremy into buying. Note hte orange string coming off his pants.

He was pretty stinkin' cute walking around with the big autumnesque balloon attached to his pants. He enjoyed playing with the pumkin.

Jaydon has started taking more interest in stalking the cats, he really wants to snuggle with them so he will chase them around and in general make their lives a little less pleasant. Here he draped our Halloween towel over Higgins - it stayed for an amazingly long period of time. Higgins was thrilled as I am sure you can all guess.

Visit with Grandma

Grandma got jealous that Graham came to visit the previous weekend so she headed up to spend some time with Jaydon, with Grandma comes the Chariot. Today we decided to see if Higgins and Jaydon would like to go for a ride.

They both really enjoyed it. Higgins was looking all around and often faced the other way with his head pushed right into the mesh in front to see out. Jaydon would sometimes kick at him if Higgins got at his feet but otherwise was content to just hang out with him.

Laundry Lily

In our home, as I am sure is the case in many homes, the laundry basket is a joy for the 'kids' in the family. Jaydon enjoys pushing it and crawling in it, Lily enjoys crawling in it and sleeping under it, Higgins is a bit too dignified to mess with it much but can be coaxed to play with strings through the holes.

Here Jaydon is petting Lily in the basket.

Jaydon decided to take Lily for a ride.

Visit to the Pumpkin Patch

We had some fabulous October weather to go out and enjoy, one day we decided to do our first trip to the pumpkin patch with Jaydon. It was a glorious day but Jaydon didn't take a good nap and then fell asleep in the car for only about 20 minutes on the way there so he was very cranky. Hopefully next year we can get some smiling photos from him.

Family photo op

A cool tree painted on pumpkins.

Jaydon wasn't too enthused about standing next to this board, he came in a little taller than 2.5 feet.

Grumpy riding the horse, he is getting to the point where he realizes he can tell us how he is feeling with facial expressions and he is giving us some pretty funny ones.

He did really enjoy seeing the cows.

Come on, you've gotta do this every once in awhile.

More not very happy Jaydon.

Graham and Jaydon.

The black bird was fun to touch. It was a very crowded day so we did not go on the hay ride or even get to enjoy any of the goodies because the lines were just too long. Next year.

More bathtime fun

Jaydon continues to love his baths and his dad spoils him by making the tub into a swimming pool half the time. This night though we decided to go with a super-duper bubble bath. Jaydon enjoyed it.

Baby mohawk, he has never had enough hair to do this so we thought we would use bubbles as a substitute. This night he decided to get himself into the sink while we were drying off. It was a tight squeeze but darn cute.

My new friend

Our closet has the lovely mirror doors with gold trim and while I may not love them, Jaydon does. He has recently started interacting with his reflection and his new thing is to blow air on the mirror and 'kiss' it.

Very cute, kind of creepy to see two of them.

Animals

Jaydon LOVES our cats, Higgins in particular because Higgins will stay close to him whereas Lily will run away. However, Higgins does not really seem to love Jaydon, he growls at him but then just sits there and puts up with whatever Jaydon does (recently even subjecting himself to a full body tackle/hug). Jaydon really enjoys trying to lie down on the cats, he will get close and then flop his head over onto them, of course they move and he flops his head onto the ground but it is pretty funny.

Snuggling one morning, Jaydon was excited that Higgins got right on us to sleep.

Evidence of the love Jaydon has but the dismay Higgins feels.

We had a visitor one night. This froggy hung out on our window for quite awhile eventually leaving. Too bad it was after Jaydon went to bed so we couldn't play with him with it.

Drinking from a straw

At a restaurant awhile back Jeremy 'fed' Jaydon some water through a straw. Jaydon loved it and now thinks it is a pretty cool way to get a drink. We gave Jaydon OJ for the first time one morning and thought we would use the straw technique, he loved it.

He is pretty good at it too. Hardly any spills and then only when we got a little ambitous on the amount in the straw. It doesn't happen often but is quite the treat for Jaydon.
