Tired Boy

After a full weekend of birthday festivities, traveling down an hour and a half for his 12 month check-up (and shots) and staying at Grandma and Gram's house he was one tired boy. Here he finally put constant motion boy to rest while I was getting ready, and he sat cuddling with Gram and sucking on 'lambie' (which I guess is really a bear but we couldn't tell when it was new and fluffy) while Gram sang to him and rocked. It was pretty darn cute and he was still for probably almost 30 minutes.

First Birthday Party!

At one year (and one day) Jaydon came in at 24lbs 1oz, 30.5in and he had a big head. He was right around 70-75th percentile in weight and height but his head size was in the 90th percentile. No wonder he doesn't fit his baseball cap anymore. He is healthy and doing very well. His muscles are huge and he is a strong, physical boy who does well with hand eye coordination stuff. His vocab is small to non-existent at this point but he does point to the items when we say them and he is good about getting what he wants so we will see when his language really starts to develop. Walking is right around the corner!

I was really in a delimma about what to do for Jaydon's first birthday. We decided to go with a lunch time BBQ with a relatively small group of family and friends. Jaydon had a good time and enjoyed all the excitement and it provided a lot of distraction for our constant motion boy.

I went with caterpillar cupcakes. The Jaydon string were no sugar banana cupcakes (I wanted to try them out and they smelled really good but were definitely not as sweet as I would like). The ones below were the good old chocolate. I also made an applesauce cupcake with no dairy, it was an adventure in the kitchen for me - thank goodness my sister came up to help.


Higgins got a timeout during the party because he can't play nice with others and rather than just leave he sits in the middle of it all and hisses at everyone. He was quite happy being in his timeout.

Melody, Grayden and Jackson (Jason came a bit later). Jackson was the only child older than 13.5 months and he did a great job of playing well with all the little ones.

Sophie was giving Jaydon a birthday kiss. He wasn't really sure what to make of it. Good job Jaydon, be weary of those fast women :-)

He didn't want to eat any of his cake but he sure enjoyed painting with the frosting and knocking things off his tray.

Jaydon found Brenna's pacifier on a table and he picked it up, went over to her and started trying to put it in her mouth. Brenna was very happy to oblige and opened her mouth for any of the other toys Jaydon thought he would try giving her.

He really enjoyed eating his chocolate cupcake later in the evening with just mom and dad. It was fed to him with a spoon (I know how terrible, but I can only handle so many major messes in one day). He loved it, no frosting even just a juicy chocolate cupcake.

Happy First Birthday Little Guy! We LOVE You!

Happy First Birthday Jaydon!!!

Wow, time flies. It is crazy how much today is making me think back to a year ago and every few hours I play the "what was I doing then" game. Most of the answers just involve laboring but we are nearing in on the time he was born. In fact, if I were to play the game right now as I write this, it would be "finding out that a c-section is the necessary means of delivering this child." We had a great day and I will post pictures and updates as soon as I can!

Babyproofing!

AHHHHH! Babyproofing is a pain - who knew that plug covers (a couple different kinds) could all be so easy for a baby to take out. I know some of you will look at this picture and think "What the 'heck' is she doing taking a picture of this instead of stopping him" and I was 'yelling' at him to stop but he seems to already be very good at ignoring me when it suits him.

We finally got our cabinet locks on (that is a huge pain in the rear) and while the plug protectors have been on forever they seem to draw more attention. Constant motion boy is living up to his name and he gets into everything. He also enjoys climbing up into things (the carseat, the lip around our bed, his trucks) kind of cute, kind of scary because he hasn't nailed the dismounts yet.

First glass casuality, but not the last

I love the book One-hundred and One Dalmations by Dodie Smith and so over the years my grandmother has gotten a ton of dalmation things for me. This was our first casuality - of course it had to be a snow globe. Luckily it was on a shelf in the guest bedroom and broke behind the shelf system so Jaydon wasn't really near the glass when it shattered. There is definitely a different pace you use when you hear glass break versus just thunks.

Also, for any of you RA friends who read this, I am putting my broken glass in a box and taping it closed, sometimes I even write 'broken glass' on the box. That risk management lady would be so proud!

I got all caught up on blogging! Most of July and August posts are new so you might have to go back aways to see it all.

I can feed myself

Jaydon has taken his time learning to feed himself. While he has been able to pick up small stuff for quite awhile. He has not had much interest in putting it in his mouth (it is kind of nice actually, we don't have to worry about him putting much in his mouth). Finally though at dinner he started feeding himself green beans. Jeremy had been working with him on it with cheerios and it took until we put green beans on his tray for him to really take off. It is a messy process with lots of misses but an exciting new milestone.

First Dentist Appointment

Jaydon had his first dentist appointment. It was pretty funny, they took a picture of him for his little dentist booklet that got to come home with us and he played with a giant toothbrush and dinosaur with big teeth. The dentist did a quick peek in his mouth and that was about it. We were told that he has a pretty big space between his front two teeth on the top and may need to have them pulled together when he gets a little older.

None of the photos turned out all that well. He was quite happy and smiling at most of the people he saw.

Jaydon also played with the small mirror that goes in your mouth and helped by putting it in his mouth and sucking on it.

First Camping Adventure (well cabin camping)!

I took Jaydon on his first camping trip (a bit of cheating due to the cabin but still a good camping experience) with Grandma and Gram. Jeremy was only able to join us for one night due to work. It was a great spot and we all had a good time.

There was a broken rod down on our path to the beach - Grandma was teaching Jaydon to cast.

Happy Birthday Great Grandma Jimmie

We had a lovely visit down to Tacoma to celebrate Great-Grandma Jimmie's 84th Birthday. It was a wonderful catered lunch at the club and we were really happy to get to introduce Aunt Judy and Uncle Bob to Jaydon. We also visited with Aunt Karen and Uncle Doug. A beautiful day spent with beautiful people.

We never quite nailed this family photo. The one that had the most promise we cut off Jeremy's head by a smidge. These were some pretty cute attempts.

Laundry Day

Jaydon has become a good laundry helper. He will get the laundry basket from the bedrooms to the laundry room, sometimes pausing along the way to unload the basket. Then when it is done he "helps" fold it and put it back in the laundry basket.

Home repairs

Thank goodness we bought our bigger car. Since we have gotten back into our house we have made a number of purchases and little improvements. It is nice (though expensive). Here we bought a storm door and some light fixtures. We did manage to fit all three of us in the car with the storm door! Feel free to come visit and see our updates.

We love parks. There is one in between our house and our good friends' house so we met there for a little afternoon playtime.

It is an elementary school park so they don't have baby swings, Jaydon doesn't mind, he just likes swinging.

Visit with the Plumbs

Before we moved out of our house we had done a bit of remodeling including having a nice bigger deck put on. We have never really owned or used a BBQ grill but we had been around other people who used theirs a lot and so I bought one for Jeremy for his birthday. We had the Plumb family over for the inaugral use (and only offered hot dogs because it was getting pretty late by the time we got it all together). Of course I neglected to get photos of anything but the babies.
