Jaydon is 3 and a half

Jaydon is three and a half and it is crazy how grown up he seems.  He loves numbers, games, sports, reading stories, bikes, trains, airplanes, sesame street, angry birds and his family.  He is a compassionate boy who remembers when people have something wrong with them and will ask about it for quite awhile after the incident.  My mom had heart surgery and it was months later that out of the blue he called and asked grandma how her heart was.  Same thing with Auntie Jenny and her gallbladder surgery, he was asking about her recovery for weeks.

Sports are a big part of his day, he loves running around and tackling and playing pretty physically throughout our house with anyone who will play with him, including Lucy!  He knows how to be somewhat gentle in tackling and then he knows how to be mighty tough with adults. I am almost at the point where I want him to play football with dad because I get little owies from stray body parts hitting me all over.  He has a good memory and loves to talk about all the teams and players that we have heard about

He loves games!  We play lots of games and he has gotten to the point where he wants to play multiple games at one time.  It isn't uncommon for us to have three games going at once and we will do a couple turns  on one game then move to the next and so on until we finish all three.  He has decided that playing with dice is more fun than the cards or spinner and is really good at rolling three dice and knowing what they add up to, he is even wanting to work on four dice at a time.  He asks us math questions, like what is two and two and four and one and then we will add it all together, just this evening it was what is twenty and twenty and ten?  I know I am no slouch in the math department but this kid is going to blow me out of the water.

He loves to read stories and have his snuggles before bed and he is starting to look at words and try to sound some of them out or figure out this whole reading thing though we are still quite a ways off from that.  He is a great traveler and always up for an adventure.  He wants to go on airplanes a lot (I guess it doesn't hurt that he has traveled by plane more than 10 times) and fondly remembers his visits with family and friends.  We have definitely hit the "why" stage and it is fun and tiring all at the same time.  I can't believe how fast time is flying by and just how big my little guy is getting.

 Game time!

 Play-doh time

Art projects still aren't his favorite but he is getting more into them, he likes to do them but only lasts about 2 minute on a project before being ready to move on to another activity.

Lucy is 11 months

This is the last monthly update. Lucy will be One soon, and while I thought the first year went by quickly with Jaydon, it now seems luxurious compared to how fast this year has gone.

By her 11th month birtday Lucy is now following simple directions and really wants to help.  She loves to unload the dishwasher, she helps put things back in bins and on shelves.  She can get you something simple if you ask for her to bring it to you and she has insanely good body control. She is a champ walker (near runner at times) and she just knows how to fall and move herself into a position so that she doesn't often get owies, even with a very physical brother knocking her down a lot.

My favorite 11 month story was when I was trying to pack up both kids and get us ready to leave for a Dr. app and then on to grandma's with the cats and our bags packed for a weekend trip.  It was crazy and if you know me you know I can't leave with a messy house, but trying to get everything ready while having two kids isn't always easy.  I had just finished cleaning the lunch stuff and loading the last of our stuff in the car and I told Jaydon to go get his shoes.  I was at the rocking chair picking up the last little toys that had been played with and Lucy comes walking over carrying her pink shoe and sits down in front of me holding the shoe up to her foot trying to put it on. It was so sweet, she heard me tell her big brother to get his shoes and she got hers too! Lucy is so happy and smiley and really such a joy!
Here she took the top of the rocket ship off and played with it and then figured out how to get it back on.
She is a daredevil, this stool had been left there by Jaydon and I looked over from the kitchen to find her standing on the chair petting Higgins, so I lifted her down and photographed her progress back up.

She loves riding on toys and can mostly climb on and off on her own now.  I love how she holds her feet out.
So proud of herself and such a big girl!

Visit with Krissi, Gavin and Blakely

While staying at Grandma's we were able to go and have a fun playdate with some friends who have a son a year younger than Jaydon and a daughter 8 months younger than Lucy.  It was quite a bit of fun and nice to know that when we do eventually have to move back down south we will have people to hang out with.

Our favorite local park

We really did have a nice stretch of Feb that was chilly but clear and sunny.  With dad doing another grad school course we have tried to get out a bit and give him some time to get work done.  On this trip the kids and I were going to be heading out for a few days at Grandma's so we had a good family trip to our favorite park before we went.
Lucy loves the swings!
Jaydon and the big slide

Lucy had such fun being in the rocks and just exploring, walking was a bit tough on such an soft surface but she managed to walk and crawl wherever she wanted to go.

A new park

On one of our beautiful sunny, yet still chilly, winter days Grandma and I took the kids to a park down near the water that we hadn't been to before.  We all had a great time and even enjoyed a bit of an outdoor picnic!

What a view, with an old wharf.

Zoos

Wendy, Brenna and baby Caedan came for a visit and we had a fun time building and playing with the straws and connectors.  Jaydon wanted to build a zoo and Wendy was happy to oblige.

We have also been using the couch cushions to make zoos and forts and just having some fun.

Happy Valentine's Day

We had a wonderful Valentine's Day.  It is funny what being a parent does for the holiday, I love trying to come up with something special for us as a family to celebrate.
Jaydon and I baked cookies and took them to some neighbors.
We then made heart shaped pizzas for dinner!

Mama and Lucy!
The next morning we woke up to a special delivery from Granny and Papa, they included some Christmas goodies and some Valentine's day goodies!

Jaydon and Lucy both got fun bird hats, scour the blog and you will see photos of the hats in the family post from late January.
